Drop Dead Fred is awful but Rik Mayall was a wonderful comedic actor
Christina Applegate is such a wonderful actress. I pray for her recovery
Folkes was the worst movie that year , for me
Stop blocking my comments UA-cam. Fuck UA-cam
Jack Black: Well, at least THE JACKAL is the biggest flop I'll ever make. Borderlands: LOL
I have always assumed that S & E weren't worth a damn, and now that I've watched their reviews, I've proved myself right.
I never let those 2 sway me from watching what I wanted. Those two were paid to help distract America and coerce.
All those years watching these two guys and then go to someone else. Well, rather watch these two go at it.
I saw Even Cowgirls Get The Blues in the theater (which took some doing, as my GF really wanted to see it, and only one theater out in Bethesda was showing it) and it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, even for an art house movie.
Aliens resurrecction is genuinely awful. How can someone who loves the 1979 masterpiece can watch this. A very basic succesion of boring action scenes with cheap jumpscares and disgusting deaths.
How excitingly they talk about the masterpiece of Goodfellas. I love it
It must be that Ebert didn't get Starship Troopers upon first seeing it. That makes me feel better about not getting it at first.
Yeah Williams did a lot of garbage in the 90s along with his good stuff. Just did too many movies. Wonder if it was just for money or he was just too manic around then to sit still
Will never know why Ebert got the praise he did. Completely missed the point of Starship Troopers and praised Speed 2. And that’s just two. He did this regularly throughout his career, yet people still rely on his reviews as a standard of whether a film is successful or not.
Eh he retracted most of his famous misses like Fight Club.
Ebert misfired too often to be considered an astute film reviewer. Uturn is actually one of Oliver Stone's best films and massively underrated.
"Any bear hibernating in August is a dead bear." 😄😄😄😄
Starship Troopers has lived to prove Siskel correct.

@@manceventure siskel and ebert in chicago is current to me
Yep young edgelords sure love it
"[Tom Selleck] can't play a convincing creep. With this screenplay even James Woods would have had to reach for it." 🤣
"Don't you think it a little bit too many lumps in the head?" "It's what it's about." 🤷♂ Brilliant.
Seen Shining Through when I was 9 years old. Thought it was a Richard Gere movie for some reason.
Rapa Nui is a damn good movie.
They have a great point about the title "Highlander 2: The Quickening". The should have added that it sounds too much like sickening.
1st time I saw these guys was on PBS/Buffalo NY reviewing "10". Fan till the end.🎬
I actually liked Being Human
(18:57) I hear a lot of people are probably saying somewhat the same thing about the new Borderlands movie. (and I wonder what Gene and Roger would've thought about that movie.)
I guess I’m alone in the opinion that Alien Resurrection wasn’t that bad, I thought it was interesting and had a goofy European sense of humor about it. I mean was it great? No. But it was certainly better than Alien 3 and it kept me entertained so I’m not sure what people were wanting from it.
i always liked Siskel and ebert, short reviews get to the point, they are not afraid to have a real opinion, with fake reviews flooding the internet, this is nice
I saw North at the time and it was really awful, but I think they miss the point about the stereotypes. It was a flight of fancy from the POV of a young boy and his knowledge of other cultures would be one of broad stereotypes. So for Texas he’d think of ranches and stetsons; Hawaii would be beaches and grass skirts; Eskimos would be igloos and the myth (?) that older ones go off on ice floes to die. I think it makes a difference realising that although it doesn’t make the film more entertaining, just less likely to offend. In those days I’d go to the cinema at least once a week and that would’ve been my worst film of 1994 too had I not seen the even worse Shopping, about joyriding and ram-raiding in London, starring Jude Law and the Sean’s Bean and Pertwee. That really was crap.
I love how Mixed Nuts is so bad that Ebert stops doing his job until they move on
I’ve watched a lot of Siskel & Ebert, but I’ve never seen them both start laughing at how dumb an ending was. That was awesome 😂
Verhoeven did a terrific job in ST. Is a great action sci-fi adventure with a lot of sarcastic comments about military and TV
They may have missed the satirical aspect of Starship Troopers-i think a lot of people did, myself included. I also loved U-Turn, but I can understand why people don’t like it (which is a skill that these two never acquired).
Ebert actually looked at things from the audiences point of view and pointed this out while also calling out movies that insulted the audiences intelligence.
alien 3, Alien Resurrection.. both crappy flicks shouldve never been made.. hopefully alien romulus will bring it back to life
I saw On Deadly Ground in the theater; after that, my man crush with Steven Seagal was over. That’s also when I realized he actually sucks, and the quality of the movie has to do with his co-stars. But even Michael Caine and Billy Bob Thornton couldn’t save this. Speaking of Caine, go watch Sleuth (1972); it’s unbelievable.
I remember this intro!
Roger’s film essays were a very important part of my developing fandom (without them, I would have missed out on Luis Bunuel’s work), but GOD were they pompous. And I’m of the opinion that there’s no excuse for evergiving away the twist of a movie, no matter how bad it was.
I’m the only person in the world who loved ‘Toys’, which is why I still refer to Michael Gambon as General Zevo even after seeing all of the Harry Potter movies 😅
Starship troopers is now considered peak satire and amazing Sci -fi
Omg, that monologue about German pastries was too funny!
These guys were so wromg so often. Its a wonder they even had this show.
Thanks for sharing this with us
I actually enjoy Hudson Hawk. I find it pretty funny.
U-turn B*A*P*s Starship Troopers were all good but the rest of those movies were crap
Plenty of good films from 1997: Contact, Good Will Hunting, 5th Element, Gross Pointe Blank, Jackie Brown, AGAIGets, Princess Mononoke, LA Confidential, Cop Land, Rainmaker, Ice Storm, Selena, Spanish Prisoner.
99% of professional critics are leeches. No better than assholes posting on Yelp, and getting paid for it.
Who else didn’t realize that they remembered this theme music?
two guys with absolutely no talent, made a living watching movies and talking about them. it is sad that people that do this kind of work probably make more money than teachers. two idiots talking about movies and people watched them. amazing.
Disney always has a Thanksgiving movie for theaters started with Toy Story
Siskel should not have been ruining movies on his show. Whispers in the Dark was more fun than he probably ever had in his life.
Exit to Eden is not a very good movie. I would agree with you. I am absolutely in love with the main actress though.
Yeah Rosie O'Donnell was something in her prime...
